Rally for Healthcare for All Californians

April 23 @ 11:00 am - 2:30 pm

Rally for Healthcare for All Californians

Details

Join your fellow feminists and many other groups from across California in a public rally to demand that legislature pass CalCare, which will bring accessible single payer healthcare to California.

We will gather at 11 AM in Cesar Chavez Park with other groups to hold a rally and then march to the Capitol Annex building. Our plan is to pack the hearing room at 1:30 PM when CalCare will be heard and voted on in the Assembly Health Committee. If you would like to get a lunch, you can also register with the Nurses Union so they order enough food for everyone. Please text Renee when you arrive at the rally so we can connect and march together (number provided after RSVP).

What is CalCare

Today’s U.S. health care system is a complex, fragmented multi-payer system that still leaves wide gaps of coverage and poses significant issues of affordability. Despite health care spending in the U.S. far exceeding other high income, industrialized countries that offer a public financed single-payer system, we consistently report worse health outcomes and disparities among vulnerable populations. AB 1400 sets in motion a single-payer health care coverage system in California, called CalCare, for all residents, regardless of citizenship status.

By streamlining payments and lowering per-capita health care spending, CalCare guarantees quality health care and long-term care without creating barriers to care or ou-tof-pocket costs. By affirming health care as a right to all Californians and establishing a payment system that eliminates waste and aligns reimbursements with the actual cost of care, we can make significant progress on financing and acquiring state and federal approvals.

Why we care
We don’t just read about injustice and discuss it – we’re also committed to working to change the world. Medical justice has been a major theme of our feminist book club the last few months. We just read Deborah Copaken’s disturbing account of medical gaslighting and her brutal fight to access life-saving medical procedures when she lost her job-connected health insurance. Let’s use her harrowing story to galvanize advocacy toward healthcare justice as part of a larger feminist agenda.

Book club member Renee will be there at the rally. RSVP that you will attend and I’ll provide you with her phone number so she can connect with you at the rally and we can fight for justice together.
