How does Israel get away with it? (a War Industry Resisters Network Webinar)

Wed December 6 @ 4:00 pm5:30 pm EST

Wednesday, December 6th

4:00 PM ET

The current genocide in Gaza is a continuation of 75 years of its ethnic cleansing of Palestinians, although more extreme than ever. The apartheid and occupation, the dehumanizing, home demolitions, imprisonments, surveillance, and killing have been standard features of this settler colonial state since its violent birth in 1948.
The level of impunity for Israel is striking. How does Israel get away with it? Is it because it is protected as a client state by the world hegemon, the United States? Or because of the collective guilt of humanity for the holocaust? Or because of its carefully managed narrative of defending itself against anti-Semitism?
While all of this matters, Jeff Halper argues in his book War Against the People that there is a more compelling reason for the world’s silence and acquiescence to the crimes of Zionism. It is that Israel has carved out a niche in the global military-industrial complex. It has become expert at population control using what Jeff refers to as its MISSILE system: Military, Internal Security, Surveillance, Intelligence, and Law Enforcement. And it markets and sells its products and services as having been field-tested in Palestine.
Come hear Jeff’s analysis of how Israel is an essential element in a global war on us, the people.

Jeff Halper is an Israeli-American anthropologist, author, lecturer, and political activist who has lived in Israel since 1973. He is the Director of the Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions (ICAHD) and a co-founder of The One Democratic State Campaign (ODSC). He self-identifies as a Jewish Israeli.

Halper has written several books on the Israeli–Palestinian conflict and is a frequent writer and speaker about Israeli politics, focusing mainly on nonviolent strategies to solve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. He is a supporter of the BDS movement and the academic boycott of Israel, and considers Israel to be guilty of “apartheid” and of a deliberate campaign to “judaize” the occupied Palestinian territories.
