The U.S. Russia, China & NATO: The Dangerous New Era of Great Power Confrontation & How We Respond

August 8, 2022 @ 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm

Russia, China, US, NATO

The Ukraine War crystalized a new and threatening era of “blockification”, and increasingly dangerous  military, economic, and technological competition. Escalation of the Ukraine War, including weapons of mass destruction remains a possibility. There is a total absence of U.S.-Russian “strategic stability” arrangements. President Biden’s National Security Policy and NATO’s new Strategic Concept names China as a “challenge” to the rules based order. Taiwan has become the tenuous hinge of the U.S. empire, and provocative naval and air force “exercises” in the East and South China Sea could easily escalate to a U.S.-China nuclear war. China is playing a long game, while the West focuses on short-term military fixes. Add to this the new QUAD, the AUKUS Alliance and Biden’s efforts to reassert U.S. Middle East hegemony.

Join two of the world’s leading analysts and peace movement figures to make sense of this fluid and dangerous landscape and their prescriptions for how our movements should respond.

Reiner Braun, Executive Director of the International Peace Bureau (Berlin)

Phillis Bennis, Director, New Internationalism Project, Institute for Policy Studies

Co-sponsored by Campaign for Peace, Disarmament and Common Security and Massachusetts Peace Action
