24-hour vigil at the Capitol- support Farm Workers petition for AB2183.

September 4, 2022 - September 11, 2022

We are inviting you to join with farm workers and their allies in a vigil in support of AB 2183! There will be 24 hour vigils until Governor Newsom signs the bill.

If you are in the vigil [or even as you go through your day in Sacramento] please wear your Poor People’s signs, patches, and your tee-shirts. If you cannot participate in person, please dedicate a daily time to do social media blasts and engage in prayer. Also, No matter where you live, you can help by signing this petition urging the Governor to sign AB 2183 into law.

AB2183, the Agricultural Labor Relations Voting Choice Act, would allow farmworkers to mail in their votes for or against certifying a union to represent them.  Newsom has said he intends to veto AB2183, as he did to a comparable last year.

California farmworkers completed their nearly month long, 335-mile peregrinación (pilgrimage or march), from Delano to the Capitol, to rally support for the bill, which gives the workers an alternative to voting on grower property, amidst voter suppression and intimidation by grower agents.

Let us remember Dolores Huerta’s words:

“Every single day we sit down to eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and at our table we have food that was planted, picked, or harvested by a farm worker. Why is it that the people who do the most sacred work in our nation are the most oppressed, the most exploited?”

Sign up for your local vigil.
