End Nuclear Colonialism: Uranium Mining on Indigenous Land
Wed September 18 @ 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm EDT
Join us at Massachusetts Peace Action Indigenous Solidarity Action Group in a full hour presentation with questions and discussion about the history and legacy of Uranium mining on Diné/Navajo Land in New Mexico from the 1940s in preparation for the building of the Atomic Bomb to the present opening of mining in the Grand Canyon Arizona land- traditional lands of the Havasupai, Diné, Hopi, Pueblo and other tribes. Tribal members will shed light on the increase of nuclear weapons and the misinformation that nuclear power is a “green alternative” for fossil fuels.
Our speaker Leona Morgan is an anti-nuclear activist and founder of Haul No!,who has been fighting nuclear colonialism since 2007, who will update us on the impact of Navajo miners, the nationwide Church Rock spill, the inability of the government to clean up uranium tailings and the Navajo nation’s refusal to allow nuclear material to be hauled through their reservation. “I just want to remind people that this is about nuclear war, genocide and the ongoing colonization of our land and the ongoing takeover of our resources and we are tired of being a resource colony. We are not a sacrifice zone.”
This webinar will be moderated by Hartman Deetz, Mashpee Wampanoag, environmental activist and teacher at the Wôpanâak Language Reclamation Project.
