UNRWA Bay Area Gaza 5K walk/run – both in Sacramento and San Mateo

October 1, 2022 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

The UNRWA Bay Area Gaza 5K walk/run is happening both in San Mateo and in Sacramento this Saturday, October 1.

If you are going to the Bay Area Gaza 5K in San Mateo (near SFO) – contact dlmandel@gmail.com for carpool arrangements. For those who can’t make the trip to San Mateo, the simultaneous option in Sacramento, starting anytime between 8 AM to 10:30 AM  in Southside Park at 6th and U streets. See details below and attached.

Whether in San Mateo or Sacramento — or neither –you can still join the Sac4Palestine team and help raise money to support UNRWA’s mental health counselors in Gaza. UNRWA, the UN agency responsible for serving Palestinian refugees is recruiting a mental health team directly from among the people of Gaza to work with families and especially children who have faced repeated Israeli military assaults and a continuing blockade. Your fund-raising efforts for these counselors will change lives and restore hope to families and children who have faced so much trauma.
To join the Gaza 5K team and fund raise for either location, please register with the Sac4Palestine/SRCPR team site at https://getinvolved.unrwausa.org/team/435128
and use the 50% discount code, SACRAMENTO50. Or you can also simply make a donation in the team’s name at the same site. Help us reach the top ranks in the friendly competition — and whether or not you join the team, you can encourage your friends to donate too.
For the Sacramento 5K in Southside Park, there are two options, shown on the attached map (printed copies will be available at the start):
  • North to Capitol Mall and back on different streets, passing by five sites with a theme of social justice and history, signage along the route. See attached Points of Interest file. The finish will be back at the starting point after a loop around the park’s lake from W Street
  • Optional for runners who want to avoid street crossings: Four laps on the park’s running trail plus a loop around the lake.
Enjoy snacks, water, other drinks and finish photos afterward at 6th and U.
Thanks for any and all participation!
